The Temple of Skate

We took a day and drove about two and half hours to The Tilawa Hotel, to a skatepark we had seen on the Internet. Let me tell you, there is no other place like it, it is amazing. It is in the mountains overlooking lake Aeranol with a volcano in the background. We met the owner of the hotel(JP) and he treated us like we were old friends coming to skate.

The park has been there about seven or eight years, and it came about because JP needed a tutor for his two kids. He hired a lady who's husband was a skater and wanted to build skateparks. JP was an expert with concrete, so the two collaborated and started to build the park by hand with a mixer. It took four years.

This place is UNREAL.

Bean in the flow area. Bean is the cook at the hotel and is from North Carolina. The dude spends his winters at the Tilawa Hotel and his summers at Skatopia. His cousin is Brewce Martin.

He's livin the life!

Day Four

Ken and Mark took the 6 am surf trip to Avellanas.
They were too busy surfing to take any surf pics, and I was too hung over to go, but Ken did get some pics on the way back.

The locals have some great signs to help out the speeders.

There is a great restaurant at Avellanas called Lola's. Here is a pic of the restaurants namesake. She's an 800lb pet pig that roams around the beach and likes to take siestas.

Zipline Tour

We went to this canopy zipline tour and hung our asses off cables over a hundred feet in the air. The decks were held up by old tree limbs and some were mounted in trees 100+ feet in the air, that swayed with the breeze.

There is no way this place would pass US building codes..........and it was a Blast!

First we had to plow through a herd of Brahma bulls on the way.

The rescue...haha

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

We hit the water Sunday afternoon for high tide, the break in front of WRSC breaks best at high tide. The water has been a little cooler than usual, but not bad, and the jellyfish were out in force.

We then ate some great food at the camp, drank some beers, and went to bed to prepare for the zipline tour the next day.

We got back from skating on Sunday and found a local hanging out on our neighbor's door.
